What is the ideal freezer temperature for Ninja Creami creations?

The recommended temperature for the freezer for Ninja Creami treats is between -7 and +9 degrees Fahrenheit.

This calculates to be between -21.7 and -12.8 degrees Celsius.

If the freezer is not the right temperature, you will end up with soupy ice cream or a very dry mixture after processing.

***Storing the pints in the door of the freezer will provide unreliable results as the temperature fluctuates in the door more than it does in the main freezer area.

Do you really have to freeze for 24 hours?

According to the manufacturer, the recommending freezing time is 24 hours.  Do people have success with freezing the ice cream base for a shorter amount of time?  Sometimes.

This is not a simple yes or no answer.

When you are first starting out with your Ninja Creami, you should freeze for 24 hours.  Once you get used to making the base mixtures, you can start to cut back on the amount of time that you freeze the mixture.  You'll be able to tell pretty quickly if the mixture needs to be frozen longer, once you have processed it.  If it's super soft and icy, it needed to freeze longer.

If you don't freeze for 24 hours, nothing horrific is going to happen.  You're ice cream is just not going to be the ideal texture.  It's likely going to be soupy and icy.  If you didn't freeze it long enough and already processed it, just level out the top and put it back in the freezer.

***Just because the ice cream base looks frozen, or like a block of ice, it doesn't mean that it's actually frozen solid all the way through.  That's why it's recommended to freeze for 24 hours.

What impacts the freezing time?
  • Ingredients used

  • Freezer temperature

  • Amount in the container

  • Desired outcome

Is there anything that you can make without freezing first?

The only thing that you can make right away, without first needing to freeze the base recipe in the container, is a milkshake using store-bought ice cream.

You SHOULD NEVER process loose frozen fruit and liquid to make a smoothie, without first blending the fruit and liquid and then freezing the mixture in the Creami container, before processing. Doing so will be very difficult on the machine and should void your warranty as it specifically says not to do this in the manual.  If you've been doing it and it works for you, that's great, but please don't recommend this method to others.  It's not recommended and is a quick way to break your machine.
